Zwish: "TALES FROM THE ROAD"

Newcastle

Now this was one loooooong trip. 5 hours there and 5 hours back = 10 hours of the weekend spent sitting in the car. It was still really good fun though cause we got to spend time with awesome band ‘The Mercy Call’ and play in a cool venue with really good sound. The trip up was pretty uneventful though we did slow to a crawl when the traffic got really slow! Bryn and I strongly considered chucking stuff at Alex, Leah, Dan, and Sam who were all in a different car. This urge finally overwhelmed us so Bryn chucked an orange which landed on Alex’s lap.

After a while of getting lost around the burbs, we arrived at Craig’s (guitarist in the mercy call) house and dumped off our stuff. He has an awesome place complete with bar and pool table. We then ventured down to the Cambridge to check out the venue where we would be playing. We were pleased to find that it was a really awesome place with a cool stage. We hung around for a bit, drunk some beer, had a sound check, Sam shot some wild animals, and then it was time for us to play. Seeing as it was early, there were not many people around but we still had a great time!!

After we finished, we watched the other bands and they were all great. The Mercy Call were fantastic (as they usually are) and punk band ‘The Zillas’ put on a very energetic and entertaining show!!
Once the night was over, we packed up and headed back over to Craig’s house to get some sleepage. The mercy call had videotaped their performance so I stayed up to watch it with them for a while.
Breakfast was eaten at a nice place in the city (though we did have some trouble with table arrangements) and Sam ate 2 big meals so was sufficiently stuffed for the rest of the day. We needed to head home quickly so we bundled everything in the car and drove a very uneventful 5 hours back to Canberra while Leah and Alex went to see Powderfinger and Silverchair play in Sydney.

Overall, a fun though long and tiring trip.
