Zwish: "TALES FROM THE ROAD"
A couple of weeks ago now, we had the pleasure of being invited on a little road trip to play at the Temora pub and the Cootamundra RSL.
The trip started with us packing all our stuff into the car (thank god we didn’t have to bring the drum kit) and heading off towards the mysterious land known as Temora. We encountered hardly any traffic which was a big plus!
After a couple of hours spent getting mildly lost and talking crap, we arrived at the luxurious Temora pub. My immediate impression was that it was rather awesome!
Nice and smallish but still big enough to not be super cramped. Nice big bar too which is always a definite plus =)
After a while of sitting around, we were all served huge bowls of pasta which we munched down before watching GOAT play.
They put on a cracker of a set but it was still pretty early so not that many people were around to witness it. CRUSH were next and they had a much more sizeable crowd for their set. They ripped through some classics like Silverchair’s Freak and Hole’s Celebrity Skin. The crowd loved it!
Next it was time for us to hit the stage. We had a great time on stage which included such first time occurrences and memorable moments as:
- Leah getting mooned on stage
- Me getting a free shot of tequila in exchange for a drum solo
We even played 2 covers. One of these went well (Song 2 by Blur) and the other went down in flames (Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again by The Angles).
After our set we relaxed and had some drinks. Bryn and Alex indulged in absinth and jager bombs which resulted in a rather spectacular display of vomit, fry pan bashing, and Bryn attempting to kiss his own arse. If anyone would like footage then please email zwish@zwish.net hahahahaha!
Some guys bought a bunch of our CD’s and one of them decided to eat Rob’s picture out of the band booklet. The guy who ate Rob was also named Rob. Most unusual!
After some sleep on a bed which had the most comfortable pillows known to man, we got up and enjoyed an awesome breakfast of toasted sandwiches =)
Eventually we got everything up into the car and headed off towards the lovely town of Coota.
Once we arrived in Coota, we unloaded all of our crapola into the RSL (which was quite big) and then waited around for a while until going to grab some tasty foodage. I witnessed Alex eating a spring roll the size of someone’s arm. It was filled with this weird looking paste stuff which didn’t really look all that appetizing.
We headed back in time to watch the bands start playing and it was fun watching them. Our set went rather well and included the memorable event of Leah jumping on Alex’s shoulders and riding him.
After our set, we danced around for the other bands (Bryn showed off some his more ‘exciting’ dance moves) and then bundled ourselves over to Lars’ studio for some drinks. We managed to get quite lost on the way and had to call Lars many times.
We still got there way early so we amused ourselves trying to get the fire started. Sam’s superb outback skills eventually got the thing going and it wasn’t too long before it was nice and warm. The other guys showed up and we had a couple of beers, a quick tour of Lars’ studio, and then it was time to head home. We only almost crashed twice on the way back which was a relief.
